Why does my dryer run but not heat?
No-heat is commonly a failed heating element (electric) or igniter and gas valve (gas), a blown thermal fuse, or restricted venting. We check the vent too, since poor airflow causes many of these failures.
Can a blocked vent cause a dryer to shut off?
Yes. A clogged vent traps heat and trips the thermal fuse or limit switch, shutting the dryer down — and it is a fire risk. We clear it and replace any tripped safety parts.
Is it safe to keep using a dryer that smells like burning?
No — stop using it and unplug it. A burning smell can mean lint near the heat source or an electrical fault, and it is worth a prompt inspection.
